Hello everyone,

We are already in May and a third of the year has gone already. Our December bookings are picking up daily and indications are that the demand is going to be greater than last year although once again we must warn owners of week 01 to expect poor returns probably up to 30% to 40% down on last year.

The main reason for this is of course the arrival of week 53 which has had the effect of pushing week 51 out of the Christmas period and week 01 out of the school holidays which unfortunately end during the middle of week 01.

Once again we would like to appeal to you, if you are not using your timeshare units in the July or December school holiday periods,  to contact us whereupon we will be happy to give you an estimate of the value of these units and your anticipated return on rental.

As mentioned indications are that there is going to be a greater demand for accommodation toward the end of this year especially in the prime resort areas of Cape Town, Plettenberg Bay and Umhlanga.  Families who have in the past looked towards overseas or Indian Ocean holiday venues are questioning the value of these in line with the rand/dollar exchange rate.

This will put pressure on local holidays and will result we believe in certain weeks becoming extremely difficult to obtain especially in the latter part of December.

Please contact us urgently on 031-5614951 with a view to our renting units that you may own in July and December which will enable you to seek alternative holiday accommodation elsewhere for you and your family.

Quantum Sun is looking for accommodation in all Tsogo Sun (Southern Sun) timeshare resorts plus the Peninsula in Cape Town where we have become the largest agency in South Africa collectively renting out these highly sort after resorts.

On a totally different subject we recently received through the mail as a result of our own timeshare holdings, a glossy brochure from a company calling themselves First Exchange.

First Exchange by their own admission is affiliated with Club Leisure Group which in turn is associated with Flexi Club South Africa. The Club was recently investigated by the National Consumer Commission who stated during the course of last year that they intended to take this organisation to court as they were of the belief that their contracts were not legal mainly because of the fact there was no cancellation clause within these contracts. I’m sure most of you are very aware of timeshare points schemes which can work up to a point out of season for some people but are definitely difficult to finalise an in season holiday with.

Most of us have at one time or another been approached by parties selling points and many of us have in fact attended presentations which offer the earth but end up delivering very little. The case that the National Consumer Commission intended to bring against Flexi Club is stalled at the moment due to technicalities with the National Consumer Tribunal. They have however stated that they do not intend to drop this matter and are looking into how to move the case forward sometime in the future.

This is not to say that First Exchange will not prove to be beneficial to certain timeshare owners but we would offer a word of caution if you are approached by them to dispose of your real time timeshare (fixed weeks in quality resorts ) in exchange for one of their holiday points schemes on the basis of it being more flexible and cost effective. Apply extreme caution before proceeding with an arrangement of this type.

We should also point out the top draw products listed in  the First Exchange glossy brochure are likely to prove difficult or impossible to swop into as in the past, especially in season. It may prove possible during out of season but high season requests will almost certainly draw a blank.

One final point we would like to make is that any advise sought from VOASA (Vacation Ownership Association of South Africa) should be viewed in the light that this body has close links to the Club Leisure Group through its common directorship links.

We look forward to hearing from you whether it’s to rent or resell your timeshare holdings. Contact us on our e-mail letting@quantumsun.co.za or by calling us on 031-5614951 or fax us on 031-5614963

Kind Regards
